Dr. Edward Jay Downs was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He graduated from Norview High School and Old Dominion University. Subsequently, he attended and graduated form The Medical College of Virginia followed by Post Graduate studies at Bowman-Gray School of Medicine and The Eastern Virginia School of Medicine.
Dr. Downs is Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and has practiced since 1976 in the Tidewater Area. He is also qualified in Occupational and Industrial Medicine. Before the closure of the Ford 150 Production Facility in Norfolk, he served as its Medical Doctor.
Dr. Downs studied Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine at Duke University and The University of South Carolina at Columbia. He is a Master Diver.
While working in Tidewater he also shared a Family Practice in the Bahamas from 2001 until hurricane Dorian destroyed the island practice.
Dr. Downs is married. He and his English wife have six children, fifteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren and three Standard Poodles.
He lives in Virginia Beach and The Eastern Shore of Virginia.
